US urges action to contain 'precarious' Korea situation

US urge action to contain 'precarious' Korea situation

BBC News
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/asia_pacific/10147297.stm

This article is about Hillary Clinton claiming that North Korea is responsible about the incident with the 46 sailors dead in a warship. South Korea claims it was North Korea because they had planted a bomb deep down in the ocean, which was routed by the way that the warship was going. North Korea says they will declare war, if South Korea and the USA claim they are the ones. The torpedo used for the warship, was also made by North Korea with a No.1 and caused the attack of the warship.
This is a horrible situation because the world doesn’t need another war. War is a very stupid thing because we think there is no point and the only thing the countries involved do is killing the citizens, destroying the city and the whole country, and leaving families poor and sad. If there sadly is a war we hope that it will be very short, and that South Korea wins the war. We also hope it won’t leave as much damage as other wars. We hope that other countries will make the right decisions to support the country that is right. But what would be even better would be that there would be no war. We that Guatemala gets involved in a war like this.

'World's biggest' forest protection deal for Canada

'World's biggest' forest protection deal for Canada
Tuesday, 18 May 2010
By Richard Black
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science_and_environment/10123210.stm
Canada has made an agreement to protect forests. This agreement will protect two thirds of Canada’s forest that is 72 million hectares and will bring a commercial gain. The area they will protect is two times the size of Germany. The amount of trees that in the protected area are equivalent to the trees those were lost from 1990 to 2005. It is called Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement. According to Steve Kallick, the director of Pew's International Boreal Conservation Campaign said this is the largest commercial forest conservation plan ever. They’re going to see if wildlife, especially caribou is affected positively by this change. This agreement could be an example for future forest agreement in other parts of the world.
Our opinion about this article is that we think as well as the company of the “Forest Products Association of Canada”. We think that the forests in Canada should be treated well such as their community. In order to do that, they should ban factories that are build in forests and as well as woodcutters. It also will prevent that the animals not being at danger of extinction. At last, we think that keeping a nice natural resource also reflects a very nice country.

Climate change link to lizard extinction

Climate change link to lizard extinction
Friday, 14 May 2010
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science_and_environment/10113949.stm
By Victoria Gill Science reporter, BBC News

According to a global-scale study, climate change may cause 20% of the lizards of the world to die by 2080. An international team of scientists found that 12% of Mexico’s lizard populations to die because of climate change. This may be able to change if us, humans slow global warming. Scientists said that there has been a very big decrease in the world’s lizard populations and will continue to decrease for decades if humans don’t slow climate change. Many other animals are at the edge of the hot climate they can resist. Lizards have less time to look for food, because they spend more time resting to maintain their normal temperature. Not only lizards are in danger because of climate change.
Our group opinion is that we must care for the lizards. In order to do that, we think that we must use electricy at necessary times and throw the garbage in its right place. One of the most important, is to recycle plastic accessories that can be reused. Many factories remake things that we use, but we say that they must be reused so theres no waste. If we help our community, we help the lives of the lizards as well.

'Underwater kite' aims to turn energy tide

'Underwater kite' aims to turn energy tide
Thursday May 6, 2010
CNN News
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TECH/05/06/energy.tidal.power.kite/index.html?hpt=C2
This article is about a tidal turbine constructed in London, England. This tidal turbine made in England, captures energy from the currents and increases the speed ten times the actual stream current. This machine helps the stream currents and as well as the energy to give light, expecting it to give 500 kilowatts of power. Trials are done but within four years it is seen to be completed and used world wide. Even though its expensive, it is worth for our world’s sake.
This is a great invention that will help our planet. It has more advantages since it is small comparing to the others. This will make a lot less pollution than other machines. Lately there are going out many ecological machines. If all the people start thinking like this then we will make a big difference. The bad thing is that it is more expensive, because it is better than normal energy. This is why not many people use ecological energy in their house, the cost. We hope that it will come out in the 4 years it is expected to.

Deadliest catch: Turtles die 'in their millions' from fishing lines

Deadliest catch: Turtles die 'in their millions' from fishing lines
April 7, 2010
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TECH/science/04/07/eco.turtle.bycatch/index.html

During the last 20 years, turtles have been victims of fishing. The Mediterranean and the Eastern Pacific are locations where sea turtle populations are in danger to disappear. A report says that the increasing in fishing gear in the marine habitats might cause more accidental deaths of sea turtles. Other animals besides the sea turtles that are commonly caught by accident are sharks, dolphins and albatrosses. These animals often die because of sharp J-shaped hooks or by getting stuck in a fishing net and drowning. In the last 20 years there have been reported more than ten thousands of sea turtles by fishing. Sea turtle have other threats like people capture them for their meat and also for their eggs. They also die from destruction of their nests on the beach and from the pollution of the ocean. Six of the seven species of sea turtles are endangered species.
This is really sad because turtles have always been one of the most interesting species of the world. We think fishermen should be more careful and try to release the turtles they accidently catch. If we were them we would save the turtles we caught in the net and investigate if we were fishing in a place where turtles are. This article may create awareness of what is happening to turtles and we hope that people do their best to save them. Many types of turtles are getting extinct and if they reduce the bycatch of them we would make more turtles survive. Turtles die for many reasons, but this is the one that kills the most. We must do something about it before this wonderful specie becomes extinct.

Death toll from Brazil floods now 229, officials say

Death toll from Brazil floods now 229, officials say
April 12, 2010
CNN News
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/04/12/brazil.flooding.mudslides/index.html?iref=allsearch
Brazil is currently having problems with flooding and mudslides. Mud is burying people and leaving them killed. Flooding is leaving many people homeless destroying their homes. President Lula is getting 200 million Brazilian reais for emergency funding in Rio de Janeiro. Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Cabral will invest 1billion reais in order to reconstruct houses for the people that are left homeless. Rain in brazil is forecasted on Monday and the next days. Most of the money that will be held for the 2016 Olympics and 2012 Word Cup hosted by Brazill will be invested as well to help brazil.
This disaster has affected may people living in Rio de Janeiro. This is really bad because it has left many people without a home and some even without family. Brazil has and will spend a lot of money fixing this problem. Everyone wants it to stop and for everything to become normal again. We hope that brazil will go back to normal. We also think that when they build the houses again they do them with a better structure so if it happens again it will be more safe and less people would die or get injured.

Two killed, 100 injured in Mexican earthquake

By the CNN Wire Staff
April 5, 2010 2:02 p.m. EDT

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/04/04/mexico.earthquake/index.html

On Sunday, Northwest Mexico Baja California was hitten by a 7.2 earthquake. This earthquake left 2 people dead and 100 injured. It was at 3:40 pm. There hadn’t been such a big earthquake since 1979. This earthquake could cause other earthquakes. Mexicali was destroyed really badly. All Mexicali has lost power after accident. When the people felt the earthquake, they started to run to the exit in the store, someone said. Many of this people went to the people where into the parking lot. After the earthquake there were 3 large aftershocks. The largest one was of 5.5 magnitude. Some people were trapped in the elevator, but had no injuries.

Our group opinion is that we think there will be strong earthquakes in Central America. We reflect that the next earthquake upcoming will be in Guatemala. One of our members thinks that houses or buildings in Guatemala can’t be crushed down because they are all made to hold 9.0 magnitude earthquakes. In our basic opinion, professional architects must be used to build buildings in order for everyone to be safe. Maybe, the buildings in Mexico and California must’ve been wrongly built or done some mistakes while processing their construction.

Baldness 'could be good for your health' say scientists

Baldness 'could be good for your health' say scientists
Tuesday, 16 March 2010
BBC News
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8569826.stm
This article is about a research scientists did and concluded that being bald or having short hair can prevent tumors. Those researchers found the tumor rate and compared with the ones that their hair became thinner at the age of 30 and the ones that did not suffer with hair problems. Scientists believe that approximately 25% to 30% of men in their 30’s will have some problems with their hair-loss. Hair-loss is caused when certain substances called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Experts found out that men with high level of testosterone have a higher possibility of losing hair.
Our opinion about this article is that men at their ages from 30~50 shouldn’t have very long hair because they would have a high possibility to have tumors. We think that if you have long hair in a very young age you will have tumors in your brain. But we think that this is not true because how can long hair affect a tumor in the brain. This can’t be true because long hair can’ affect your brain. Another thing is that if the girls have long hair why don’t we have constantly tumors and sometimes die.

Internet threatens rare species, conservationists warn

Internet threatens rare species, conservationists warn
Sunday, 21 March 2010
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8579310.stm
Lately, the internet has been one of the biggest threats to rare and endangered species. Many conservationists are saying that the internet has made it easier for people to sell and buy animals. They can sell baby lions and even a polar bear pelt. They sell them thorough online auctions and chatrooms. One of the conservationists said that thousands of endangered species and rare animals are regularly bought and sold through the internet. Conservationists say that it is almost impossible to estimate the size of this problem. They say that the United States is the biggest market but Europe, China and Australia also have very large markets. One animal that is really being affected is the Iranian Salamander that according to the World Wildlife Fund has been devastated by the internet trade. If the world keeps doing this the endangered and rare species might someday disappear.

We think this story is really sad, but it isn't surprising we are doing it. It is horrible that some people are selling unique, innocent species only to get money.Internet has always had good and bad things about it, and this only makes internet a worse and full of crime place. We should do something about it, animals cant speak up for themselves! This affects us because the planets wildlife is being attacked, and we might not see some animals, nor will our children. Also all animals have a purpose on earth, and the balance of things might be changed and our whole world affected. It sad that campaigns to protect animals have been defeated because it is one of the cruelest crimes ever done by humans, as many as they are. Looks like the purpose of human beings is actually to destroy the world.

International Women's Day call for labor deaths action

International Women's Day call for labor deaths action
Monday, 8 March 2010
BBC News
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8551481.stm
International Women's Day is a day that helps women to have their pregnancy period to be normal and secure and also peacefully. There are many women in the world that are dying during their pregnancy or labor. Some others countries have experienced too many deaths in many countries. One of the most countries that had experienced woman death during pregnancy time is in UK 100 years ago and now they are having the same problem. There are also many countries like in England and Wales they say that 355 women had died. Another country is Scotland and the Irish Republic they say that the rank is about 572 or 531 and many other countries. Especially, in Nepal and Rwanda are mostly helping the progress in women’s health. For example, in Mongolia, women’s deaths were reduced by taking them into special places in which women can be able to give birth.

Our opinion about this article is that its very good that they created this day because it help all the women that have the risk of dying during there pregnancy or labour period. Many women die each year because of pregnancy period and this day can help reduce all those deaths. We think womens need to be less stressed during their labour time. To make this happened they have to be positive that they wont die. another posibilities to survive the labour time. they also need education how to take care of themselves and the baby.

More than 2 million affected by earthquake, Chile's president says

February 28, 2010
CNN
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/02/27/chile.quake/index.html

On Sunday in the morning earthquake of 8.8 magnitude happened in Chile. 2 million people have been affected by this earthquake. 300 people have died and 15 are still missing. This earthquake was a lot higher than the one that happened in Haiti on January that had a magnitude of 7.0. The damage in Chile was very bad in a large area. A 15-story high building collapsed near the city of Concepcion. The president announced that all the events will be canceled for the next 72 hours and that school years will start until March 8 (originally they would start on March 1). The earthquake was at 3:34 a.m. The earthquake was followed with 76 aftershocks with magnitudes of 4.9 or greater.
Our opinion about this news is that people in Central America should rebuilt their homes because the cause of the destruction of homes is the least consideration of building houses. For example, we think that more brick pillars should be built inside the houses because they support the roof so the family and the house are both safe. We think that the world must be alert about this situation on earthquakes because nobody knows what would happen at any time. Many people have comments about a tsunami on Hawaii and Japan. We don’t think that tsunami will be available because a tsunami is processed in 24hours.

Florida wildlife freezing to death

Florida's Wildlife Freezing to Death
Thu Feb 11, 2010
Jennifer Viegas
http://news.discovery.com/animals/florida-wildlife-cold-weather.html
Discovery News
Lately Florida has been getting vey cold and the waters are freezing too. This is causing that the animals that live in the water are getting cold. There has been an unusual changes in temperture to very cold. This weather is causing the death of many wild life creatures under water. The animal that was most affected by this climate change is the manatee. Only in January more than 200 manatees were killed. This is really bad because compared to the deaths of other years, the highest number of manatees death is 429 in one whole year. Now in only one month over 200 died, this is a really bad change. The manatee is not the only affected species but many more. This si a really bad change in the world that will change a lot.
Our opinion is that this is impact of global warming that we are causing. This is very bad because the animals, specially the manatees can get extinct like many other in danger species. All the world needs to know that of all the polution in the world is creating global warming. I’t doesnt only affects us like humans but also all the creatures and animals in the whole world. We wished that all the people know in the future that we are hurting all the creatures and even us.

Blood Pressure harm from smoke 'may explain cot death

Blood pressure harm from smoke 'may explain cot death'
Tuesday, 26 January 2010
BBC News
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8478690.stm

Many pregnant women and teenagers smoke when they are going to have their babies this is one of the reasons that he babies die or have SIDS. Dr. Gary Cohen is studying 36 babies and he saw that 17 babies who’s mother was smoking during her pregnancy had abnormal heart rate and blood pressure. But now when they get older the blood pressure it rises when they change position a lot. This is not supposed to happen with normal babies because the blood pressure raises a lot. This is the main reason of cot death.
Our opinion is that this is really bad that women smoke during their pregnancy. We think that women that are soon becoming moms, should understand and think of the future of their babies because when those babies grow up and become adults, they’ll have to struggle with their health problems and they can’t succeed their dream. We also think that if these problems still go on, families world-wide become less healthier and these are major reasons why family population decrease.

Haiti devastated by Massive Earthquake

Haiti devastated by massive earthquake
Wednesday, 13 January 2010
BBC News
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8455629.stm?ls

The 12 of January there was an enormous earthquake in Haiti. The magnitude of the earthquake was of 7.0. Many people have died because it was one of the worst earthquake in Haiti in the last 200 years. It hit south of Puerto Principe the capital of Haiti. The earthquake affected up to 3 million people. A witness said there were people wounded everywhere.
Many international countries are helping the problem. The people are so poor in this area, and the earthquake is making it impossible to survive. People are fighting for food, water and other stuff they need. The people are being very violent to get the stuff they need.
Our opinion is that this is a very serious problem. Especially because Haiti is the poorest country in America and now there even more poor than before. Their houses got destroyed and now they don’t have a home where to live. Everyone including kinds are wounded. People are dying of hunger. This is very sad.
A good thing is that many international countries are helping to solve this problem. It will take many years for Haiti to recover but with help of other countries the recovery will be faster. Everyone is trying to make a difference for the people living in Haiti. We can make a big difference just by giving a bit of food can make a difference for a person in Haiti. This earthquake may have changed the life of many people not only the one in Haiti but the people that are helping them.
This article has bias.
