US urges action to contain 'precarious' Korea situation

US urge action to contain 'precarious' Korea situation

This article is about Hillary Clinton claiming that North Korea is responsible about the incident with the 46 sailors dead in a warship. South Korea claims it was North Korea because they had planted a bomb deep down in the ocean, which was routed by the way that the warship was going. North Korea says they will declare war, if South Korea and the USA claim they are the ones. The torpedo used for the warship, was also made by North Korea with a No.1 and caused the attack of the warship.
This is a horrible situation because the world doesn’t need another war. War is a very stupid thing because we think there is no point and the only thing the countries involved do is killing the citizens, destroying the city and the whole country, and leaving families poor and sad. If there sadly is a war we hope that it will be very short, and that South Korea wins the war. We also hope it won’t leave as much damage as other wars. We hope that other countries will make the right decisions to support the country that is right. But what would be even better would be that there would be no war. We that Guatemala gets involved in a war like this.

'World's biggest' forest protection deal for Canada

'World's biggest' forest protection deal for Canada
Tuesday, 18 May 2010

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science_and_environment/10123210.stm
Canada has made an agreement to protect forests. This agreement will protect two thirds of Canada’s forest that is 72 million hectares and will bring a commercial gain. The area they will protect is two times the size of Germany. The amount of trees that in the protected area are equivalent to the trees those were lost from 1990 to 2005. It is called Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement. According to Steve Kallick, the director of Pew's International Boreal Conservation Campaign said this is the largest commercial forest conservation plan ever. They’re going to see if wildlife, especially caribou is affected positively by this change. This agreement could be an example for future forest agreement in other parts of the world.
Our opinion about this article is that we think as well as the company of the “Forest Products Association of Canada”. We think that the forests in Canada should be treated well such as their community. In order to do that, they should ban factories that are build in forests and as well as woodcutters. It also will prevent that the animals not being at danger of extinction. At last, we think that keeping a nice natural resource also reflects a very nice country.

Climate change link to lizard extinction

Climate change link to lizard extinction

By Victoria Gill Science reporter, BBC News

According to a global-scale study, climate change may cause 20% of the lizards of the world to die by 2080. An international team of scientists found that 12% of Mexico’s lizard populations to die because of climate change. This may be able to change if us, humans slow global warming. Scientists said that there has been a very big decrease in the world’s lizard populations and will continue to decrease for decades if humans don’t slow climate change. Many other animals are at the edge of the hot climate they can resist. Lizards have less time to look for food, because they spend more time resting to maintain their normal temperature. Not only lizards are in danger because of climate change.
Our group opinion is that we must care for the lizards. In order to do that, we think that we must use electricy at necessary times and throw the garbage in its right place. One of the most important, is to recycle plastic accessories that can be reused. Many factories remake things that we use, but we say that they must be reused so theres no waste. If we help our community, we help the lives of the lizards as well.

'Underwater kite' aims to turn energy tide

'Underwater kite' aims to turn energy tide

CNN News
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TECH/05/06/energy.tidal.power.kite/index.html?hpt=C2
This article is about a tidal turbine constructed in London, England. This tidal turbine made in England, captures energy from the currents and increases the speed ten times the actual stream current. This machine helps the stream currents and as well as the energy to give light, expecting it to give 500 kilowatts of power. Trials are done but within four years it is seen to be completed and used world wide. Even though its expensive, it is worth for our world’s sake.
This is a great invention that will help our planet. It has more advantages since it is small comparing to the others. This will make a lot less pollution than other machines. Lately there are going out many ecological machines. If all the people start thinking like this then we will make a big difference. The bad thing is that it is more expensive, because it is better than normal energy. This is why not many people use ecological energy in their house, the cost. We hope that it will come out in the 4 years it is expected to.

Deadliest catch: Turtles die 'in their millions' from fishing lines

Deadliest catch: Turtles die 'in their millions' from fishing lines
April 7, 2010
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TECH/science/04/07/eco.turtle.bycatch/index.html

During the last 20 years, turtles have been victims of fishing. The Mediterranean and the Eastern Pacific are locations where sea turtle populations are in danger to disappear. A report says that the increasing in fishing gear in the marine habitats might cause more accidental deaths of sea turtles. Other animals besides the sea turtles that are commonly caught by accident are sharks, dolphins and albatrosses. These animals often die because of sharp J-shaped hooks or by getting stuck in a fishing net and drowning. In the last 20 years there have been reported more than ten thousands of sea turtles by fishing. Sea turtle have other threats like people capture them for their meat and also for their eggs. They also die from destruction of their nests on the beach and from the pollution of the ocean. Six of the seven species of sea turtles are endangered species.
This is really sad because turtles have always been one of the most interesting species of the world. We think fishermen should be more careful and try to release the turtles they accidently catch. If we were them we would save the turtles we caught in the net and investigate if we were fishing in a place where turtles are. This article may create awareness of what is happening to turtles and we hope that people do their best to save them. Many types of turtles are getting extinct and if they reduce the bycatch of them we would make more turtles survive. Turtles die for many reasons, but this is the one that kills the most. We must do something about it before this wonderful specie becomes extinct.

Death toll from Brazil floods now 229, officials say

Death toll from Brazil floods now 229, officials say
April 12, 2010
CNN News
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/04/12/brazil.flooding.mudslides/index.html?iref=allsearch
Brazil is currently having problems with flooding and mudslides. Mud is burying people and leaving them killed. Flooding is leaving many people homeless destroying their homes. President Lula is getting 200 million Brazilian reais for emergency funding in Rio de Janeiro. Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Cabral will invest 1billion reais in order to reconstruct houses for the people that are left homeless. Rain in brazil is forecasted on Monday and the next days. Most of the money that will be held for the 2016 Olympics and 2012 Word Cup hosted by Brazill will be invested as well to help brazil.
This disaster has affected may people living in Rio de Janeiro. This is really bad because it has left many people without a home and some even without family. Brazil has and will spend a lot of money fixing this problem. Everyone wants it to stop and for everything to become normal again. We hope that brazil will go back to normal. We also think that when they build the houses again they do them with a better structure so if it happens again it will be more safe and less people would die or get injured.

Two killed, 100 injured in Mexican earthquake

By the CNN Wire Staff
April 5, 2010 2:02 p.m. EDT

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/04/04/mexico.earthquake/index.html

On Sunday, Northwest Mexico Baja California was hitten by a 7.2 earthquake. This earthquake left 2 people dead and 100 injured. It was at 3:40 pm. There hadn’t been such a big earthquake since 1979. This earthquake could cause other earthquakes. Mexicali was destroyed really badly. All Mexicali has lost power after accident. When the people felt the earthquake, they started to run to the exit in the store, someone said. Many of this people went to the people where into the parking lot. After the earthquake there were 3 large aftershocks. The largest one was of 5.5 magnitude. Some people were trapped in the elevator, but had no injuries.

Our group opinion is that we think there will be strong earthquakes in Central America. We reflect that the next earthquake upcoming will be in Guatemala. One of our members thinks that houses or buildings in Guatemala can’t be crushed down because they are all made to hold 9.0 magnitude earthquakes. In our basic opinion, professional architects must be used to build buildings in order for everyone to be safe. Maybe, the buildings in Mexico and California must’ve been wrongly built or done some mistakes while processing their construction.
